What are some major ligaments?
–Broad (mesovarium, mesosalpinx, mesometrium)
–Round
–Ovarian
–Suspensory
What are the parts of the broad ligament?
It is often divided into 3 regions: covering the ovaries (mesovarium), the Fallopian tubes (mesosalpinx) and uterus (mesometrium), but these are continuous peritoneum.
What is the round ligament a remenant of?
The embryological gubernaculum
What is the suspensory ligament?
vascular and carries the ovarian artery and vein (descending from abdominal aorta and IVC).
What does the ovarian ligament do?
fibrous structure connecting ovary to uterus.
Note ovaries are embedded in the posterior aspect of the broad ligament.
What does the pudneal nerve block transvaginal approach allow?
a bilateral pudendal nerve block to anaesthetise the inferior vulva, which is helpful when an episiotomy or related procedure is necessary.
Safe place to inject anaesthetic as wont cause nerve injury
