Score of how ready for birth
What are the different ways to induce labour?
Topical prostaglandin analogues: Misoprostol. Can be a Pessiary or vaginal gel. Membranes may rupture sponataneously.
Mechanical methods: Balloon catheter- Less likely to cause fetal distress
IV synthetic oxytovin- Initiates uterine contraction
What are the complications of induction of labour?
Hypotension
Hyponatremia
So get IV fluids too
What does fetal monitoring do?
Assess fetal wellbeing and detects stress
What is cardiotocgraphy?
Records baby heart
Monitors contraction of uters and babies heart
What are the indications of fetal monitoring?
Induction of labour
Multiple pregnancy
Pyrexia
Basically anything abnormal
What does DR C BRAVADO stand for?
DR: Determine risk C: Contractions BRAVADO- Cardio bit BRA: Baseline rate. 100-160 bpm V: Variability of baseline rate A: Acceleration- Upward spike D: deceleration- Downward spike O: Overall is it normal?
What is fetal blood sampling?
Confrm CTG signs of fetal hypoxia
Cut on head to look at blood
Low ph is hypoxia. Immediate delivery
10% of cerebral hypoxa cases
What is a C-section?
Incision in abdominal wa;; and uterus
What are the 2 types of C-section?
Lower uterine segment incision: Hotizontal
Classical: Rarely done. Longitudinal
What are the indications for C-section?
Fetal distress
Fail to progress in labour
Malpresentation
Twin pregnancy with a non cephalic presenting twin
