BV Treatment
Metronidazole topical or PO
Clinda topical
Tinidazole PO
Seconidazole PO
Nongonoccocal urethritis and cervicitis PE
Example - chlamydia
Microscopic exam shows large number of WBCs
Clamydia tx
Doxy X7 days
Or large one time dose of Azithromycin
Conceal urethritis and vaginitis
Gonorrhea
Ceftriaxone 500 mg IM
Gentamicin IM + azithromycin or Cefixime single dose
Trichomoniasis
Yellow-green vaginal discharge
Cervical petechial hemorrhages (strawberry spots)
Microscope will show motile organisms
Alkaline pH (ph 7 and above)
Trichomonas tx
Metronidazole PO BID x7 days for women
X1 dose for men
Avoid alcohol following tx by 1 day for metronidazole, 3 days for tinidazole
UTI Tx
Bactrim BID x3 days, if no sulfa allergy and resistance < 20%
Introduction BID x5 days
Epididymous- orchitis, men 35 and younger
Ceftriaxone 500 mg IM w/ Doxy BID x10 days
Advise scrotal elevation - Prehn’s sign
Acute bacterial prostatitis w/ Los risk of STI
Cipro PO or levofloxacin PO BID x10-14 days
Bactrim DS
Urge incontinence tx
Antimuscarinics (anticholinergics) - oxybutnin
Alt: B3 agonist
HIV Antiviral Therapy (ART)
People living with HIV
Post exposure prophylaxis (PEP)
Use of ART after a single high-risk event to minimize HIV acquisition within past 72 hrs
