Utilitarianism
Act in a way that is useful to or benefits the majority
Fidelity
Obligation to maintain trust in relationships. Dedication and loyalty to one’s patients.
Veracity
Obligation to present info honestly and truthfully
Ombudsman
Person who acts as an intermediary been pts and an organization (LTC, nursing homes, hospital etc…)
Investigated and mediated the complaint from both sides
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
Aka HIPAA PRivacy Rule
Third Party Administrator
An organization that does the processing of claims and admin work for another company (health insurer, health plan, retirement plan etc)

State Nursing Practice Act

Each state has their own Practice Act that dictates educational requirements, responsibilities, and scope of practice

Responsible for enforcing the State’s Nursing Practice Act
Licensure
Legal requirement to practice as an NP. Obtained through governmental entity, SBON
Certification
Process through nongovernmental entity, such as a professional nursing association or specialty organization
