Period when the bitch is sexually attractive while rejecting the male’s advances until the first willingness to accept the male.
The first day of serosanguineous vulvar discharge is also used as the first day of proestrus

What is estrus?
The period of acceptance of the male.
How long does estrus last?
9 days (just like proestrus)
Does vulvar discharge increase or decrease during estrus?
Decreases
What is diestrus?
When the bitch no longer accepts the male
How long does diestrus last?
70 days
Pyometra is diagnosed at what phase of the estrous cycle?
Luteal phase (progesterone dominated)
What is the pathophysiology of pyometra?
Repeated exposure of the endometrium to progesterone during the long luteal phase, cystic endometrial hyperplasia may be predisposing factor
Uterine stump pyometra may be associated with?
Remnant ovarian tissue
