acute prostatitis
inflammation of the prostate due to bacterial (E coli) or non bacterial sources such as trauma or AI responses
BPH
Benign prostate hyperplasia: affects the transitional zone.
- due to build up of DHT. testosterone is converted to DHT by 5a reductase
- irritative or obstructive SSx
prostate cancer
adenocarcinoma of the peripheral zone
- blood in urine or semen
- obs/irr SSx
inguinal hernia:
deep/lateral: hernia travels through inguinal canal
medial/superficial: hernia peirces directly through the post. inguinal canal
hydrocele
build up of fluid in between parietal and visceral layers of tunica vaginalis
varicocele
varicosity of the vampiniform plexus. thought to be due to incompetent valves and increases in intrabdominal pressure
cryptorchidism
undescended testicle
menopause:
12 month period of absences of menses or menstruation
- due to a decreases in the number of follicles and an decreases in responsiveness to FSH
- lower oestrogen levels
PCOS
- > 12 enlarged follicles in each ovary
- menstrual irregularity
- hyperandrogenism
thought to be caused by the innaproprite se cretion f gonadtrophins
PID:
thought to be caused by infections that havent been effectively treated.
diagnostic criteria is of exclusion: endometriosis, ectopic preg, appendicitis/bowel issues
gall/renal stones
endometriosis:
deposiits of em=ndometrial tissue found anywhere other than the uterine mucosa that behave like noral endo tissue
uterine fibroids:
benign tumours arising in the myometrium of the uterus
