renal Flashcards
acute pyelonephrtiis
flank pain, unilateral
n/v
acute renal failure
abrupt oliguria, edema, weight gain
ELEVATED creatinine
GFR
right kidney lower than the left dt liver
true
average U/O
oliguria
u/o=1500ml
oliguria-
when renal fxn decrease, CR increase
normal levels
male: .7-1.4
female: .6-1.2
factors that effect serum creatinine
gender (males higher), race (AA higher), muscle mass, age (less)
creatine clearance
24 hour urine test
not effected by fluid, diet, exercise
more accurate than serum creatinine
GFR normal value
> 90 ml/min
GFR in renal failure
casts
shaped like cylinders, RBC casts and protinuria = glomerulonephiritis
normal WBC and RBC amount
WBC:
nitrates
= e.coli
augmentin
amoxicillin and clavunate
its a PCN
UTI rx if s/s >48-72 hr
order urine C&S, r/o pyelonephritis.
switch to cipro/ofloxacin and treat 7-10 days
uti treatment
3 days:
bactrim/septra
sulfa allergy: nitrofurantoid, augmentin
urine will b eorange, will stain contact lenses, avoid if liver/renal disease
