Renal Flashcards
Protein metabolism will do what to BUN
Increase it
Effect of inadequate carb intake
Catabolism (protein metabolism)
Myoglobinuria
Presence of myoglobin in urine caused by muscle breakdown…very harmful to kidneys
Adverse effects of ACE inhibitors
Proteinuria and hyperkalemia
Normal urine specific gravity
1.005-1.030 or 1.010-1.020 depending on source
Hyperphosphatemia results in which other electrolyte abnormality
Hypocalcemia.
Most commonly an issue in CKD d/t Inverse relationship. When one is up the other is down.
Effect of acidosis on serum K
Hyperkalemia because K follows the H ions out of the cells and into the serum
Tetany
Involuntary muscle spasms/contractions caused by low serum Ca or Mg
Erythropoietin
- Hormone secreted by kidneys to tell bone marrow to produce RBCs
- Low in pts with CKD causing anemia
- Should be repleted before RBCs if HGB is low d/t CKD and only that
Often associated with hyperkalemia
Hypocalcemia
Complication of hypophosphatemia
Hypoventilation(r/t muscle weakness)
Seizures
Encephalopathy
AMS
Appetite loss
Bone fracture
Ransons Criteria
