Hematology Flashcards
Lab findings most indicative of DIC
Fibrin Degrading products(FDPs) and D dimer(form of FDP)
Electrolyte abnormalities associated with MTP
Hypocalcemia, hyperkalemia
Pancytopenia
Decreased levels of all blood cells
Increased risk of infx
Required for vitamin b12 absorption
Intrinsic factor
Heparin action
Reduce circulating thrombin
NOT a fibrinolytic
Does decrease Plt but not the main purpose…too much decrease could indicate HIT
Polycythemia
- Increased Hct/Hgb in blood
- Can cause cyanosis d/t increased blood viscosity causing sluggish blood flow
- or can be caused by cyanosis/hypoxia
Effect of MTP on oxyhemoglobin curve
Shift to left d/t PRBCs being low in 2,3 DPG
This causes greater pickup at the lung but less drop off at tissue
Considerations while doing MTP
Hyperkalemia, hypocalcemia, decreased 2,3 DPG, hypothermia, the last two which will make you more prone to hypoxia due to the increased affinity of oxygen
Normal FDP level
<10
