A

1509-1514
-Visited england 4 times.
-Appointed professor of Greek at Cambridge
-Ideas became known as erasmianism + it influenced younger humanists, described as ‘Christian humanists’ as they were keen to establish the truth about Christian texts.
-HVIII appointed humanist tutors for Edward + Elizabeth.

Influence of renaissance in england

A

-Knowledge of classical learning increased among elite groups
-Number of schools became influenced by humanist approaches.
-Henry saw himself as a promoter of new ideas + humanism
-English humanists became more influential in govt + church e.g. Thomas more.
-Crown needed well-educated diplomats who could communicate with their counterparts abroad.
-Visual culture- paintings, sculptures + architecture etc combines renaissance elements w traditional gothic styles.
-Hampton court palace was built, reflected renaissance styles.
