Act of parliaments
-1533- Cromwell passes acts of parl to establish royal supremacy
Act in restraint of appeals

-declared that appeals couldn’t be made to Rome regarding church court decisions.
-Meant Catherine couldn’t appeal to Rome against marriage annulment
Act of succession

-Declared Henrys marriage to Catherine as void
-Succession should be vested in children from his marriage to Anne.
-To deny the validity of his marriage to anne was treasonable
-An oath should be taken to affirm an individuals acceptance of the marriage.
Act of supremacy

-king was declared supreme head of the church of England, accomplished the break from Rome.

-treason could be committed if spoken/writing described HVIII as ‘heretic, schismatic, tyrant infidel or usurper of the crown.
Act of restraint of annates

-allowed annates (held by papacy) to be transferred from the pope-> king= strengthening his position

-dissolved monasteries.
The kings great matter
1520s
-Concerned the annulment of HVIII’s marriage to Catherine which could only be granted by the pope
-Was Cromwell’s suggestion of breaking away from Rome which allowed Henry to secure the annulment.
Marriage
Cromwell made the case of Anne’s adultery –> execution in 1536
-Helped negotiate marriage to Jane Seymour + Anne of Cleves, but Anne of Cleves led to his downfall.
Revolution in govt
Developed a more modern form of govt, replacing the personal approach–> bureaucratic one e.g. court of augmentations established to look after henrys income.
-Changed composition of privy chamber= reduced to 12 men: more efficient+ higher value placed on talent.
