Seen as culture rebirth, influenced literature, art, music etc
Began in North Italy,
Believed past was different to present.
Writing history became political and became public knowledge.
Saw parallels with themselves and Rome - copied narrative styles.
Argued reading history would allow leaders to govern better in the present and to study to understand progress of nation.

overthrew Geoffry’s myths. Speeches still fabricated of historic figures. Speeches usually what he thought they should of said. Modelled speeches on classical models.
