Q

What is meant by asynchronous consultations?

A

Information about the patient is sent electronically to the doctor. Doctor then reviews this at a later day and responds to the patient via an appropirate method e.g. email, text message, phone call etc… The information may be sent by the patient themselves (to their doctor) or it could be one doctor sending it to a specialist doctor for advice. Key points to remember:

  • Time delay
  • NOT for urgent issues

Q

Discuss the impact ethnic inequalities in social determinants

A

Ethnic inequalities may result in certain individuals education, employment, healthcare they receive etc…

An example of how this links to health: adult isn’t picked for job due to ethnic inequalities. They then have children who are born into a family with less income. Family doesn’t eat as healthy as others and children don’t get same opportunities. That child cannot go to university… process starts again of not securing most well paid job.

Another example is when ethnic minorities won’t move to an area where they feel like a minority due to fear of discrimination etc… Area they move to may not have the best schools etc…

A

If your data proves hypothesis incorrect, go back to stage 3 and start process again

*Idea that you make list of differential diagnoses. Think about which is most likely. Decide an investigation which will help support your diagnosis. If investigation doesn’t support diagnosis, consider alternative diagnosis and decide an investigatio to support this. Process continues…
