Reliability Flashcards

1
Q

explain inter-rater reliability?

A
  • extent to which 2 or more observations of the same behaviour are consistent
  • data collected by 2 observers is correlated to assess reliability

Q

explain test-retest reliability?

A
  • giving the same test to the same person/people on different occasions
  • if it is reliable the results such be the same/very similar =two scores will be correlated
  • must be enough time gap so pp’s cannot remember their answers but not too long incase their opinions have changed

Q

explain questionaries for ‘improving reliability?

A
  • reliability can be tested using test-retest method to produce a correlation of +0.8 or more
  • if it gets low test0retest reliability some aspects may need to be rewritten

Q

explain interviews for ‘improving reliability?

A
  • to ensure reliability the same interviewer should be used

- and trained well, so not to ask leading questions, which is avoided in structured interviews

Q

explain experiments for ‘improving reliability?

A

-lab experiments often reliable as researcher has control over extraneous variables = standardised= replicable

6
Q

explain observations for ‘improving reliability?

A
  • reliability increased when behavioural categories are operationalised +self evident
  • categories shouldn’t overlap
  • if these aren’t considered then observers due to subjectivity will have different and inconsistent data
