Data Analysis: Graphs Flashcards
1
Q
explain ‘summarising data in a table’?
A
- used to present descriptive statistics that have been generated from raw data
- usually include reference to both measures of central tendency used
- look at flashcards
2
Q
explain ‘bar charts’?
A
- visual representation of data
- needs title
- x axis= desscreet data =iv
- y axis= continuous data= dv
- both axis labelled with units
- gaps between bars
- look at flashcards
3
Q
explain ‘scattergrams’?
A
- doesn’t depict differences but associations between co-variables
- doesn’t matter which is on the x or y axis
- look at flashcards
4
Q
explain ‘histograms’?
A
- title
- axis like bar chart
- axis labelled
- bars MUST TOUCH
- height can vary to represent frequency
5
Q
explain normal distributions?
A
- bell shaped curve
- mean. median and mode all meet at the top of the curve
- only this shape with LOADS of pp’s
- look at flashcards
6
Q
explain positively skewed distributions?
A
- mean on the RIGHT OF THE MODE
- most of the distribution is on the left
- y axis always freq!!!
- (hard test=most get low marks and few get high marks)
- FLASHCARDS
7
Q
explain negatively skewed distributions?
A
-mean of the LEFT OF THE MODE (lower than the mode)
-distribution towards the right
-(easy test- most get high
scores few get low scores)
-FLASHCARDS
