explain informed consent?
A
- pp’s are made aware of aims of research, the procedures and their rights + right to withdraw+ what data will be used for in a consent letter
- pp’s make informed judgement if they want to take part
- if under 16, need parents signature

explain deception?
A
- deliberately misleading/withholding info from pp’s
- cannot say they have given informed consent
- deception can be justified when it doesn’t cause distress

explain protection from harm?
A
- pp should not be placed at more risk than they would in their everyday lives.
- should be protected from physical and psychological harm
- reminded they have right to withdraw

explain privacy and confidentiality?
A
- pp’s have right to control info about themselves= right to privacy
- confidentiality and personal data should be protected
- locations should also not be named
- in some case studies initials may be used eg. HM/KF

explain debriefing?
A
- at end of study pp’s should be offered a full debrief, made aware of true aims of study
- told what data will be used for + right to withdraw data
- reassured behaviour was typical and normal
- if pp’s need extra support, they should be offered it
