  • pp’s are made aware of aims of research, the procedures and their rights + right to withdraw+ what data will be used for in a consent letter
  • pp’s make informed judgement if they want to take part
  • if under 16, need parents signature

explain deception?

A
  • deliberately misleading/withholding info from pp’s
  • cannot say they have given informed consent
  • deception can be justified when it doesn’t cause distress

A
  • pp should not be placed at more risk than they would in their everyday lives.
  • should be protected from physical and psychological harm
  • reminded they have right to withdraw

  • pp’s have right to control info about themselves= right to privacy
  • confidentiality and personal data should be protected
  • locations should also not be named
  • in some case studies initials may be used eg. HM/KF

A
  • at end of study pp’s should be offered a full debrief, made aware of true aims of study
  • told what data will be used for + right to withdraw data
  • reassured behaviour was typical and normal
  • if pp’s need extra support, they should be offered it
