Reliability Flashcards
What is reliability?
The consistency of research findings by replicating a study
What is test-retest reliability?
- do the test once and then repeat with the same participants (standardised procedure)
What is inter-observer reliability?
completed in observations
-multiple observers record data and compare and corelate results
-observers have to reach an agreement
How does inter observer reliability test reliability?
-avoids bias as results are discussed
-makes results more trustworthy
How does test retest reliability assess reliability?
- scores from both test are then correlated - relationship between co variables
analyse correlations through statistics test. to determine level of significance
What is the ink blot test?
Rorschach’s ink blot test- tested personality
-personality abstract concept
-aim to reveal a persons unconscious wishes, desires, and thoughts
How cam the ink blot test been seen as unreliable?
-subjective and produces inconsistent results
How does questionnaire improve reliability?
-Test and retest - same participants and same questions
-consistent questions means standardised procedure
How do interviews improves reliability?
inter-observer
-same observer and structured interview
-observer would agree on a set criteria to observe
-produce consistent results
how do observations improve reliability ?
inter-observer
-operationalised variables
-clear outline of variables
-observers agree on a set of behavioural categories and are clear what is being measured
How do experiments improve reliability
-test and retest -standardised procedure conditions and participants are the same
-consistent method that can be replicated
