Use of Heat
A
- Increase blood flow, decrease pain, increase flexibility, decrease joint stiffness
- Heat packs: microwavable, chemically
- Hydrotherapy: heated pool at 40°, using buoyancy to limit the weight on injured area
- Infra-Red Lamps: proceed heat via radiation

Use of Cold (Cryotherapy)
A
- Reduce blood flow, decrease pain, increase flexibility, decrease joint stiffness
- Ice Massage: Ice is rubbed on body for 15 minutes
- Ice Bath: Immediately following an injury
- Contrast Therapy: moving injured area between cold and hot baths
- Vapocoolant Sprays: used during games, for minor injuries
