the process of restoring full physical function after an injury has occured
2
Q
what is the purpose of rehab?
A
restore strength, flexibility, endurance, and speed in the connective tissue

Q
stages of rehab
A
1 early stage: gentle exercise to heal damaged tissue
2 mid stage: progressive loading of connective tissue and bones to develop strength
3 late stage: functional exercises and drills to ensure the body is ready to return to training
4
Q
stretching: Acute phase
A
- no stretching as will damage injured tissue
- PRICE and complete rest the focus
5
Q
stretching: mid phase
A
- gentle but active rehab
- gentle static passive stretches to increase tension and allow connective tissue to lengthen
6
Q
stretching: later phase
A
- focus on ROM, strength and coordination
- PNF stretches retrain + desensitise stretch reflex
- ↑ ROM and connective tissue strength
- decrease pain sensations
7
Q
massage therapy
A
physical therapy used for injury prevention and soft tissue injury
8
Q
aims of massage therapy

- break down of scar tissue from previous injuries
- reduce pain, generate heat, circulation, + relaxation
9
Q
what injuries should massage therapy not be used on?
