Properties depend on the sheep it is taken from (e.g could be coarse or soft)

Use:
Jumpers, suits, blankets

A natural fiber harvested from cotton plants

Use: Towels, denim, socks

A:
Cool, absorbent, soft, does not stain easily, resists washing at high temperatures

Creases easily, burns, shrinks, dries slowly

A

Polymer chain spun into yarn
(Snytheic fiber)

Use
Medical textiles, raincoats, fleece jackets

A: strong when wet or dry, dries quickly, durable, crease resistant, can be recycled

D: low warmth, poor absorbency, not environmentally friendly

Use: imitation of, wool knitwear and blankets

A: warm, dries quickly, crease resistant, durable

Simple cotton cloth. Weaved into a specific pattern that looks the same on both sides

Calico is often grey

Use:
Beddings, shirts

A:
Strong, cheap to make, hard wearing

Firm, varied quality (could be soft or coarse)

Twill weave (e.g denim)

A

Woven textile method

Weft (not left - weft yarn passes horizontally) yarn goes over two or more warp (verticle) threads
Makes a diagonal pattern

Denim is blue in the waro and white in the weft

Use:
Jeans, jackets, curtains

A: hard wearing,strong, less stiff and more attractive than plain weaves

D:
Frays
Thick so often hard to use

Felted wool fabric

A

Non-woven textile
Fibers of woo are joined together using heat and pressure

Use:
Pool table surfaces.

Resists chemicals and fire, does not unravel / fray, environmentally friendly

D:
Expensive, deforms when wet, not stretchy

Warp knitted fabric

A

Knitted textile made from a series of vertical loops
Can only be made from a machine

E.g swimwear, lace nets

A: stretchy, comfortable, fast production

D: can lose shape, curls at the edges (aesthetic problems)

Single yarn creates interlocking loops across a fabric.
Made by hand or machine

E.g T-shirts, jumpers, socks

Stretchy, comfortable, fast production
