In what ways was involuntary recruitment carried out during the Crimean War?
The army was still trying to recruit in pubs by tricking drunk people into joining the force. However, volunteers did receive incentives to join.

He abolished meaning that it became more of a feasible career option for middle class people which in turn brought innovative new ideas into the army.

Cardwell banned flogging in 1868 during peace time and branding altogether from 1871 onwards. He also band bounty money meaning to prevent recruiting sergeants from tricking people into the army. He also reduced the maximum service years from 12 to just 6 years.
Why was there an influx of volunteers during the Boer War?
Many working class people after reading more jingoistic nature wanted ot help restore glory after the disaster of black week in turn leading to an excess of volunteers. In turn 60% of them were rejected for health reasons which led to serious concerns for the social conditions of working class people.
What was formed for more middle class people during the Boer War?
The City Imperial Volunteers and the Imperial Yeomenry were founded and were predominantly made up of more middle class people. As a whole 70’000 people volunteered during the Boer War.
What investigation was carried out after the Boer War?
The Committee for Physical Deterioration carried out an investigation as to why so many working class people failed the test. This led to a flurry of social reforms to help improve the health of working class people.
