receptors involved in regulation of pulminary ventilation Flashcards
what do chemoreceptors do and where are they located
located in the carotid artery and aortic arch they detect increase in the plasma concentration of carbon dioxide and in lactic acid production, they send impulses ron the inspiratory system to increase ventilation until blood acidity has returned to normal
how’s does the respiratory centre respond to the impulse from the chemoreceptors
sends impulses down the phrenic nerve to stimulate more inspiratory muscles(that are also expiratory naturally)- sternocleidomastoid, scalenes, pectoralis minor. the rate and depth of breathing increase
what do proprioreceptors do
detect an increase in muscle movement and feedback to the respiratory centre to increase breathing during exercise
what do baroreceptors do
detect an increase in blood pressure in the aorta and carotid artery, resulting in increased breathing rate
