Announce “Emergency Descent”

If autopilot engaged both crew conduct together:

Oxygen Mask - On/100%
Mic Switch - Mask
Establish Communications
(Hot mic as required)

PM:
- Fasten Belts - On
Advise ATC (JTE____ Emergency Descent)
Acknowledge and read back all FMA announcements

PF:
- Set 10,000’ and state with “ALT SEL”
- Select IAS
Power Levers - Flight Idle
Condition Levers - MAX
Set Vmo (if appropriate)
Read FMA
At an appropriate time call for the Emergency Descent Checklist

PM:
Transponder - As Required
Approach Lights - On

Both Power Levers - DISC
Braking - Attempt normal braking until aircraft is stopped

if aircraft cannot be stopped using normal brake application:

EMERG BRAKE lever - Apply smoothly until aircraft is stopped

A

Warning - Should the rudder pedal (rudder jam) suddenly break free, do not apply rudder pedal input in the opposite direction.

Affected rudder pedal - Apply normal push force

Rudder pedal moves as required:
Affected rudder pedal - Reduce push force and allow rudder to centre

Rudder pedal does not respond to normal push force (rudder remains jammed or rudder jam re-occurs)
Use roll control as required for directional control
