FADEC?
Full Authority Digital Engine Control
What drives accesory gearbox
High pressure compressor
What supplies power to FADEC in each engine and also the APU
Right Essential Power Bus powers APU FADEC
Respective PMA’S power each engines FADEC
FADECS are secondarily powered by the essential buses
When does FADEC become operational
20% gas generator speed
How many FADEC channels
2
MAX RPM
1020RPM
MAX Power available
125% T/O RATING POWER
MTOP
Maximum Take off Power
NTOP
Normal Take off Power
UPTRIM
Power loss engine’s PEC sends signal to FADEC of operating engine to increase to MTOP and increase power by 10%
Moving Power Levers into Overtravel region does what to prop RPM?
Automatically increases to 1020RPM regardless of Condition lever position
TORQUE LIMITS
Reverse - 35%
Forward - 106%
Overtravel - 125%
Feathered - 135%
What is the propellor Underspeed governing speed?
Prop speed - 660RPM
How does the Nh overspeed correct and when?
FADEC restrics fuel flow if 108% is exceeded
What are the three fault classifications
Critical
Cautionary
Advisory
Critical Failure definition
Detects faults which result in stabilizing the engine at FLT IDLE or GND IDLE, depending on airspeed or air/gound status
A commanded engine shutdown
FADEC signals illumination of the #1 or #2 ENG FADEC FAIL warning Light
Cautionary Fault definition
- Detected faults involving asymmetric Power Lever position or rapid Power Lever movement resulting in engine surge
- FADEC signals illumination of #1 or #2 ENG FADEC Caution Light
Advisory Fault Definition
Advisory faults are detected not classified as critical or cautionary. FADEC transmits Advisory fault codes to the engine monitoring unit and engine display
How many ignitors per engine
2
How much oil in oil tank
6 QTS check within 15-30mins of shutdown
What PSI triggers low oil pressure annunciation
<47psi
When do you introduce fuel in an engine start
Once the NH begins to rise
When is starter cycle complete
50%NH
When does FADEC abort start
Light off doesnt occur within 16 sec of fuel flow introduction
ITT limit of 920 deg C is exceeded
NH does not reach 50% in 70 sec
What happens after FADEC aborts start
Select switch auto centers
START caption in the START Switchlight extinguishes
What is difference for starting in in-flight starts
Both ignitors are used
Auto Abort features are disabled
FADEC doesnt monitor ITT
Indicated TRQ range

MAX CLIMB POWER
MCR
MAX CRUISE POWER
What prop RPM is MCR available at
850 or 900 RPM
NH range
0 - 199.9%
NL range
0 - 199%
Low pressure turbine speed
Oil temp range
-99 - 199 deg C
Oil Pressure range
0 - 299 PSI
Normal oil pressure range
40 - 80 PSI
MCR
Changes engine rating when condition levers are set to MIN/850 from MCR to MCL
MCR
Changes engine rating when condition levers are set to 900 from MCL to MCR
alternative way to feather prop?
ALTERNATIVE FEATHER pump 28VDC
Prop Gnd range is below what blade angle?
16deg
When is autofeather armed?
TRQ > 50 % A/F ON PLA > 60% Condition levers set to max/1020RPM engines running Displayed on ED
The Automatic Takeoff Power Control System (ATPCS) AKA “Uptrim” is triggered by what four conditions?
Is it dependent on Autofeather selection??
Torque of the failed engine falls below 25% “OR”
Np falls below 816RPM &
PLA is set to high &
MTOP is not set
It is independent of the autofeather system.
How to disarm autofeather
Other engine fails
Pushing switch off
Retarding PWR LVR to FLT IDLE
remote prop autofeathering
when does AUPC (automatic underspeed propeller control) activate
propeller speed <816RPM
How is the propeller overspeed governing accomplished?
Hydraulically at 1060RPM by stopping the HP oil supply to the hub and allowing the counterweights to coarsen the pitch.
Electrically at 110% or 1120RPM by the FADEC signaling to reduce fuel through the Fuel Metering Unit
How is the Nh protected from over speeds?
When is it used in normal operations?
The FADEC issues a dual channel signal to the fuel shutoff solenoid when the Nh signal reaches 108%.
It is used to shut down engines in normal operations.
