Flight Controls Flashcards
How long between flap selection does the flap reach the actual setting
8 second physical transition between each setting. Ie. faster rate of change for flap 35
Select final flap, autotrim will be in effect. What cancels it?
Any manual trimming
What powers flap
HYD system 1
What guides powered controls
Flight control computer - controls
Hydraulics - operates
Above what speed do the outboard spoilers disengage
Above 170kts the disable and then below 165kts they reactivate.
How do you test the spoilers prior to taxi?
FLT TAXI switch.
Rudder trim
half deflection - slow trim
Full deflection - fast trim - 3 sec for engine failure
Every power change,
Retrim Rudder
What flight control is not power assisted?
Ailerons
What flight controls are power assisted?
Elevators
Rudder
What annunciator is displayed in the event of a rudder jam?
POWERED RUD 1 / 2 PUSH OFF in amber
What annunciator is displayed in the event of a spoiler jam
FLIGHT / CONTORL SPLR 1/2 on Glareshield panel & ROLL SPLR INBD/OUTBD GND on CWP
Each hydraulic system powers a PCU attached to each elevator?
True sys1 / sys2 / STBY sys
What causes auto powering of the Standby PCU’s?
1 / 2 hydraulic systems fail
What does FCECU stand for?
Flight Control Electronic Control Unit
When moving flap from 15 - 35 deg, does autotrim occur?
Yes
PITCH TRIM caution light illuminates why?
FCECU detects inability to control either pitch trim acutator or airspeed varies by more than 17kts
ELEVATOR FEEL caution light illuminates why?
FCECU detects inability to control elevator feel below 200kts or airspeed varies by more than 17kts or normal acceleration is sensed to be invalid.
ELEVATOR Asymmetry
FCECU detects mismatch between elevator positions with airspeed < 200kts
ELEVATOR PRESS meaning?
FCECU detects all 3 PCU’s are powered
Who has what controls after the ROLL HANDLE DISCONNECT is pulled?
CPT controls Spoilers
FO controls Ailerons
ROLL OUTBD & ROLL INBD meaning?
Adivsory that all spoilers are extended
ROLL SPLR INBD / OUTBD on the ground?
FCECU detects spoiler fault on ground
SPLR OUTBD meaning?
FCECU fails to lockout or enable outboard spoilers at speed
With flaps retracted do you have full rudder deflection
No only when flaps are extended
1 OR #2 RUD HYD meaning?
FCECU has shut down that PCU due to a malfunction
RUD CTRL meaning?
FCECU cannot control rudder / fail of both HYD sys / Airspeed > 17kts diff
FLAP POWER meaning?
FCECU has locked flaps in last position
FLAP DRIVE meaning?
Flaps operate at reduced rate
1 OR #2 STALL SYST FAIL meaning?
Failure of respective Stall system
PUSHER SYST FAIL on ground meaning?
Illuminates 30 sec after landing - single stick shaker failure
Which control column is directly connected to the spoilers?
Captain side
What happens to the pressure to the rudder actuators as the speed increases?
As airspeed icreases, FECEU reduces the hydraulic pressure available to the PCU’s. Inputs from either rudder pedals cause less rudder deflection.
What controls the pressure to the rudder actuator?
FCECU
What will happen if pressure is lost on one rudder actuator?
If either hydraulic system is lost, the remaining PCU provides rudder control
What will happen if both rudder PUSH OFF buttons are pressed at the same time?
Both RUD1 and RUD 2 “PUSH” lights come on, and neither rudder PCU will depressurise.
Which control(s) do the gust lock lock?
Ailerons
What controls the rate of the pitch trim?
FCECU controls pitch trim rate depending on airspeed data from ADC.
Below 150 KIAS trim operates at high speed.
Above 250 KIAS trim opeartes at low speed
Trim rate is adjusted between these airspeeds
When does the ELEV PRESS caution light illuminate?
When all 3 HYD systems are providing pressure to the elevators.
ie HYD #3 ISOL VLV is open
What does the ELEV FEEL caution light indicate?
One FCECU channel can’t control its elevator feel actuator
Airspeed #1 mismatches Airspeed #2 by 17 knots or more (IAS MISMATCH on PFD + RUD CTRL, SPLR OUTBD, PITCH TRIM cautions also illuminate)
Normal acceleration parameter is not valid
For the spoilers to extend on landing, the FCECU and PSEU must recieve valid input signals from what two places?
Both power levers are less than flight idle +12*
Weight on wheels sensors detect main landing gear is on the ground.
The flight taxi switch must also be in the flight position and hydraulic pressure must be available.
What does the ROLL SPLR INBD HYD master caution mean?
No. 1 hydraulic system pressure is less than 900psi or the SPLR 1 PUSH OFF switchlight has been pushed.
What does the ROLL SPLR OUTBD HYD master caution mean?
No. 2 hydraulic system pressure is less than 900psi and KIAS <165, or
The SPLR 2 PUSH OFF switchlight has been pushed and KIAS <165 or
Spoiler cable failure
