1915 Italy joined war -> Allies promised to give several pieces of land in EU -> only received Tyrol + Istria ( did not get Dalmatia + port of Flume)
port of Flume -> given to Yugoslavia -> anger (Italians fought 3.5 years + lost 600,000 men -> sacrifice in vain)

settlement -> humiliation -> blame government + look for strong and almighty leader -> protect nations interest against more powerful states -> MUSSOLINI
