Reacting Quantities Flashcards
Stoichiometry
The ratio of the amount, in moles of each substance
Used to find quantities of reactants required to prepare required quantities of a product
How to calculate masses from equations and stoichiometry
Calculate the moles of the known mass
Mole ratio and convert back
Can involve volumes and concentrations
How to calculate percentage yield
Percentage yield=actual yield/ theoretical yield x100
Can do it with both moles or mass
Limiting reagent
Reactant that is not in excess that will be completely used up and stop the reaction
How to calculate the which reactant is the limiting one
Use mole ratio
Atom economy
Measure of how well atoms have been utilised
Important for sustainability as they make best use of natural resources
Atom economy equation
Sum of molar mass of desired products/ sum of molar masses of all products x100= atom economy
