Re-Compete Flashcards

1
Q

Without challenge, without competition, one won’t grow. Why is competition essential?

A

Usain Bolt is faster because other people are forcing him to be faster than they are.

Muhammad Ali (champion) fought all other greats. Seemed like a major match every month. Now the best won’t fight the best as it’s not financially good if they lose.

Competition and conflict make sports compelling. They get their highest rating when gladiators wholeheartedly compete against one another.

Q

What is the honour in failing?

A

I am going to fail often. Get used to it. Failure is going to make me better. This process of competing requires that I lose most the time.

Sometimes when we lose, we trek preserves we’re no good, we’re not worth improving, we don’t matter. Nothing could be further from the truth. I just need to reframe how I think about failure.

Q

Development or winning?

A

Development all the time.

Test myself against the best that I can find. Take risks. Fall down and learn and get back up.
