Rates of reaction + equilibrium Flashcards
when a reaction is at equilibrium what does it mean?
the forward reaction is occurring at the same rate as the reverse reaction.
the concentrations of the reactants and products are the same
what happens if you move the equilibrium to the left?
make more reactant
what happens if you move the equilibrium to the right?
make more product.
how do reversible reactions behave?
they do the opposite to what they’ve been asked
e.g. - increase temp the reaction will try to decrease it.
how to work out what happens to the yield when pressure is changed
add up moles on both sides
(if q increases it will move to high pressure side if decreases will move to low pressure side)
state effect on yield. LOOK AT BOOK AND PRACITCE QUESTIONS
what is the effect on yield when temperature is altered?
some reactions are exothermic, some are endothermic. If a reaction is exothermic in one direction it will be endothermic in the other.
what will happen to the rate if temp is increased?
increase the rate.
