step 1 hands
Perform hand hygiene.
a. Cover all surfaces of hands with hand sanitizer.
b. Rub hands together until hands are completely dry

Explain the procedure to the resident.

Do not cause the resident discomfort/pain at any time during ROM.

Provide for privacy.
step 5 raise
Raise the bed height
step 6 position 1
Position the resident supine (bed flat)
step 7 position 2
Position the resident in good body alignment
step 8 1 hand
Place one hand under the resident’s elbow.
step 9 other hand
Place the other hand under the resident’s wrist
step 10 flex
Raise the resident’s arm up and over the resident’s head flexion
step 11 ext
Bring the resident’s arm back down to the resident’s side
step 12 x
Complete flexion and extension of the resident’s shoulder at least three times.
step 13 continue
Continue to correctly support the resident’s joints by placing one hand under the resident’s elbow and the
other hand under the resident’s wrist
step 14 ab
Move the resident’s entire arm out away from their body abduction
step 15 ad
Return the resident’s arm to the resident’s side adduction
