RAMBOMAN Flashcards
What are the components of non-random error?
Recruitment Allocation Maintenance Blind and Objective Measurement ANalysis
What is recruitment error?
Are participants representative of the eligible population??
How can recruitment error be reduced?
By increasing the sample size
What is an example of recruitment error?
A study recruiting the top 10 schools on their study habits.
Likely to not be representative of all schools in NZ as the top schools would tend to have better study habits in comparison to other schools
What is allocation?
How people are allocated to their respective groups
What are the two methods of allocation?
Random allocation
Allocation by measurement
What is random allocation?
The clinician determines the participants groups
Often done in experimental studies
Could the clinician be impartial to the outcome of the participant?
What is allocation by measurement?
Information is collected from the participant which is used to assign them to the eg AND cg groups
Was this information collected reliably?
How can random allocation be avoided?
Through double blind allocation
What is double blind allocation?
Neither the allocator of groups or participant knows which group they are in
