Radiology Flashcards
What appears more white on X-Rays?
Denser structures (less Xray passes through)
What are XRs useful for?
Where there is strong difference in densities
What substances (2) are commonly used for contrast studies? What do they do?
Barium or iodine.
Very dense, thus used to enhance soft tissue outlines
CT scans provide superior contrast resolution with different views/ sections.
What is the limitation?
Not useful if tissues have very similar densities
When is the high spatial resolution in US useful? (3)
MSK
Fluid collection
Solid structures in fluid
What must be done before an MRI scan?
Remove iron containing material
What is MRI good for?
For soft tissue of similar densities.
*Gold standard for brain scans
Which organ does MRI not work well with?
Lungs (poor details)
