Touching for emotional support, emphasis and palpation
What are a radiographer’s responsibilities during a medical emergency?
Know the location of the emergency cart.
Be familiar with the contents of the emergency cart.
Be able to assist nurses, doctors and other members of the healthcare team.
Know how to call a code. (protocol will vary by institution).
What are the medical emergency priorities in order of priority?
Ensure an open airway
Control bleeding
Prevent or treat shock
Attend to wounds and/or fractures
Provide emotional support
Re-evaluate and follow up as appropriate
How should patients be assisted when undressing?
Always remove clothing from the uninjured side first
How should patients be assisted when re-dressing?
Put clothing on th injured side first
How should hospital gowns be changed with patients with IVs?
Slip the gown off the unaffected side first.
Place the IV bag and tubing through the arm hole of the gown.
Only lower the bag if necessary to change the gown. Do not discontinue IV flow.
