Q

Pathogenesis of Rabies

A

After a bite of infected animal
the saliva containing the Rabies virus reaches the muscle then virus reaches
- NMJ then retrograde transmitted to DRG replicating their then
-Through spinal cord to brain causing brain damage!
then Through sensory nerves to?
Cornea = tranplantation infection
Salivaryglands = bite infection

Postmortum diagnostic tool

A

Negri bodie in brain and spinal cord

18
Q

What is the mangemetn of Rabies ?

A

1-SOAP + WATER FOR 10 MINUTES
2-Tetanus
3-PEP:
Not vaccinated before : Human rabies Igs half in bite half in gluteal + 5 doses of vaccine 0 3 7 14 28
vaccinated within 5 years : 2 doses only of the vaccine

19
Q

From what is rabies vaccnie formed ?

A

From Inactivated Rabies Virus
grwon on tissue culture
Human diploid ceel
Monkey cell
duck embryo

20
Q

Gold standard for rabies vaccination ?

A

Human diploid cell vaccine

21
Q

Pre-epxosure vaccination is given to ?

A

1=Highly risk individuals as veterinary doctors.
2=Travelers !

22
Q

Pre-epxosure vaccination is given to ?

A

1=Highly risk individuals as veterinary doctors.
2=Travelers !
5 Doses IM in deltoid

23
Q

Prevention of rabies HOW?

A

1-Elimination of the source ( Vacinnate domestics - Eliminate stray ! )
2-Pre&post exposure prophylaxix

24
Q

Post infectious encephalitis is >?

A

Milder from of encephlats follwing
Infection OR
Immunization after several weeks attacking brain CNS antigens
casuing demyleination

25
Q

Gullian Barre syndrome caused by?

A

HIV
CMV
EBV
hce

26
Q

Reye’s syndrome=

A

Salicylate +
Inflenza B
VZV
Adenoviruses

27

A

MMR
Mesels Mumps Rubella
VZV

28
Q

Tropical spsatic parapareis caused by?

A

Human lymphotropic virus 1
HTLV-1
IN Transvers Myelitis

29
Q

Describe Human lymphotropic virus 1 induced Transvers Myelitis .

A

=A demyliniating diseas of neurons of brain and motor neuron of spinal cord due to ?
-Autoimmune corss reaction attacking the diseasd nerons
-Cytotoxic T cells kills Neurons affected !

30
Q

SLOW CNS INFECTIONS CAUSED BY?

A

MEASLES
JC VIRUS
PRIONS

31
Q

PML
Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy
caused by?
occurs in immuno compromised

A

JC VIRUS Opportunistic virus

32
Q

How to diagnose JC Virus?

A

PCR FOR Viral DNA in CSF
NOT antiviral no Thearpy!

33
Q

Misofolded protein causing SLOW CNS INFECTION

A

=PRIONS
Cuasing
Kuru &
Variant Cretuzfeldt jakob disease (vCJD )

34
Q

Mode of Transmisson of Kuru
and Variant creuzfeldt jakob disease?

A

Ingestion of Prion contaitng beefs
Conreal Tranplantation
Dura transplatation from infected cadavar

35
Q

Prions cause ?

A

Progressive brain danage!
misfolded protein inducing froming misfolded protein accumulating near the Nerve compressing its blood supply casuing its degenartion and Spongiform histological change.

36
Q

Clincal presentaiton of PRIONS DISEASE

A

Gradual onset!
Progressive dementia
Myoclonus
Coma+death

37
Q

Lab diagnosis of prions diseases

A

1-Postmortum bipsy from CNS
showing spongiform histological change in the nerves
2-No serological test no immunity forms against it
3-prions cannot be grown on culture

38
Q

Prevention from prion diseases?

A

Infected animals Slaughtered!
Carcasses destroyed !
