Quiz 4 Flashcards
what test was done to make this slide and what anemia disease does it likely indicate
saline agglutination test
Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia
two ways to describe the abnormal red blood cells
two underlying causes of this
Description:
hypochromic (decreased red color)
decreased MCHC (measurement of the hemoglobin concentration)
Causes:
Iron deficiency
Blood loss (GI ulcer, parasites, neoplasia)
how would you define these red blood cells - hypochromatic or hyperchromatic?
hypochromatic (reduced hemoglobin concentration)
Which of these things is NOT a typical finding in regenerative anemia?
Schistocytes
Polychromasia
Anisocytosis
Howell Jolly bodies
Schistocytes
Mycoplasma hemofelis
Is this regenerative or non regenerative anemia - and how did you decide
regenerative
Because their are reticulocytes (immature RBCs) in the blood.
what disease is causing this anemia
three reasons that made you decide this
Immune Mediate Hemolytic Anemia
Reasons:
** spherocytes (spherical red blood cells without an area of central pallor and are usually slightly smaller in size than the average red cell)
** Agglutination in saline test
** Polychromasia (more immature red blood cells than what’s considered normal)
