How are guys most likely to commit suicide?
- Most likely to use guns or jumping off a bridge.
- More likely to go through with suicide.
Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder
- Most common behavioral disorder that emerges during childhood.
- Genetic disposition.

ADHD: Onset of S/S
- Early age
- May not become apparent until starting school

- Trouble sustaining attention
- Trouble organizing tasks ( but is normal for 3rd graders not to be able to put more than 3 things together)
- Appearing not to hear when spoken to
- Losing items necessary to complete tasks
ADHD Clinical Manifestations: Impulse Control
- Difficulty waiting
- Blurting out comments
- Interruptions
- Intruding
ADHD Clinical Manifestations: Hyperactivity
- Fidgeting
- Excessive talking and running
- Inability to engage in quiet activities
What are other problems associated with ADHD?
- Sensitivity to noises or disruptions in environment
- Frustrated with rigid structure (school)
When are medications started for children with ADHD?
Not started until in structure school setting
Those with ADHD must have:
Signs present for at least 6 months, occurred before age 7, and not associated with another disorder.
ADHD Management Goals
- Reduce frequency and intensity of behaviors
- Interventions targeted to enhance capabilities and self-esteem
