quiz #2 - hints Flashcards
pubic symphysis (pubic) joint - type & movements
cartilaginous, symphysis, amphiarthrosis, uniaxial
gliding, little motion (2mm), increases during pregnancy
-superior & inferior glide, separation, distraction, compression
pubic symphysis (pubic) joint - articular surfaces
symphyseal surfaces covered by hyaline of two pubic bones with fibrocartilaginous disc in between
pubic symphysis (pubic) joint - ligaments
superior pubic ligament & inferior (arcuate) pubic ligament, fibrocartilaginous disc
pubic symphysis (pubic) joint - loose & close packed position, capsular pattern
no loose/ close packed
capsular pattern: pain when joint is stressed
pubic symphysis (pubic) joint - inferior glide of pubic bone via leg pull: leg position
leg in slight flexion, ADD & internal rotation
place foot of opposite leg against thigh to stabilize
pubic symphysis (pubic) joint - distraction of pubic symphysis (indirect)
- 1/2 strength, repeat 3-5x
- 3/4 strength, repeat 3-5x
- full strength, repeat 3-5x
AF joint - medial glide of femur
EFFECT: increase hip ABD, pain management
PRECAUTIONS: if SI or pubic symphysis unstable, L spine should be neutral to avoid injury
*patient is side lying
-stabilizing hand: distal femur, medial knee
-mobilizing hand: soft contact to direct mobilization of trochanter inferiorly & medially while distracting
*suggestions: lower table, use body weight to direct mobilization, axial distraction first
AF joint - axial distraction: leg position
externally rotate leg
SI joint - inferior glide of ilium on sacrum: leg position
leg in slight ABD & internal rotation
tibiofemoral (knee) joint - axial distraction of tibia on femur: CI’s
patient seated, hand placement proximal to ankle
tibiofemoral (knee) joint - anterior glide of tibia on femur: CI’s
CI’d for ACL injury or damage
tibiofemoral (knee) joint - posterior glide of tibia on femur: CI’s
CI’d for PCL injury or damage
tibiofemoral (knee) joint - medial & lateral glide of tibia: CI’s
do not allow femur to rotate medially
patellofemoral joint - inferior & superior glide: CI’s
do not compress patella or force knee into extension (hyper extension; superior)
patellofemoral joint - medial glide: CI’s
CI’d if previous dislocations, do not force knee into hyperextension & discontinue if painful
