foot & ankle Flashcards
distraction of talus on tibia & fibula (talocrural, ankle, mortise joint)
EFFECT: increase overall ROM, pain management
PRECAUTIONS: dome of talus is sensitive to pressure
posterior glide of talus on tibia & fibula (talocrural, ankle, mortise joint)
EFFECT: increase dorsiflexion, pain management
PRECAUTIONS: dome of talus is sensitive to pressure
posterior glide of tibia on talus (talocrural, ankle, mortise joint)
EFFECT: increase plantar flexion, pain management
PRECAUTIONS: anterior tibia may be sensitive to pressure
posterior/ superior glide of calcaneus on talus (talocalcaneal joint)
EFFECT: increase overall ROM, pain management
PRECAUTIONS: do not allow plantar flexion
lateral glide of calcaneus on talus (talocalcaneal joint)
EFFECT: increase lateral glide of calcaneus, pain management
PRECAUTIONS: tendons & skin of lateral foot are sensitive to pressure
medial glide of calcaneus on talus (talocalcaneal joint)
EFFECT: increase medial glide of calcaneus, pain management
PRECAUTIONS: tendons & skin of lateral foot sensitive to pressure, caution if previous inversion sprain, do not invert ankle
supination of the metatarsals (tarsometatarsal joint)
EFFECT: increase supination of foot, pain management
PRECAUTIONS: tendons & skin of foot are sensitive to pressure
pronation of the metatarsals (tarsometatarsal joint)
EFFECT: increase pronation of foot, pain management
PRECAUTIONS: tendons & skin of foot are sensitive to pressure
axial distraction (MTP joints)
EFFECT: increase overall ROM, pain management
PRECAUTIONS: tendons & skin of foot are sensitive to pressure
plantar/ dorsal glide (MTP joints)
EFFECT: increase toe flexion (plantar glide) or toe extension (dorsal glide)
PRECAUTIONS: do not squeeze
