Questions Revision 4.5 Flashcards
Q1. Why is the sea level rising and the coast flooding?
The sea level rising and the coast floodings have come down to climate change.
Real answer Q1
Coastal flooding is caused as of rising sea levels. Sea levels rise as of warmer temperatures. Water in oceans expand as it gets warmer. Higher sea levels would mean that coastal areas are flooded more frequently.
Q2. How bad will sea level get by 2100 and how will it affect different places around the world
It will affect places that have weak rock and will erode coasts more easily than before. If sea levels get higher by 2100 erosion will be more destructive and frequent
Real answer Q2
Sea levels by 2100 will get worse in places like holderness. There, there is a lot of weak rock so therefore by 2100 most of holderness might be gone. Obviously, the more the sea levels rise, the worser it will get
Q3. Why will storms get worse with climate change?
Storms will get worse as of climate change because as of climate change the storms will be frequent
Real Answer Q3
Climate change will make storms worse because it will make storms more frequent. Climate change will cause waves to have energy which will make them more destructive
Q4 How will storms and sea rise affect erosion rates
As of climate change affecting the frequency of sea rise and storms more erosion will happen.
Q5
Storms and sea level rise will affect the people and the environment because equipment such as fishing boats will be destroyed and habitats will also be destroyed. Environmentally, seawater has a high salt content and as of this organisms can be damaged or even killed
Q6- explain how groynes and sea walls work.
Groynes work to protect a certain area from erosion and sea walls protect cliffs from erosion.
Real answer Q6
Groynes work to stop longshore drift and it transports sediment along the coast. Groynes also encourage deposition of sediment on beaches. Sea Walls reflect wave energy to the sea and stopping it hitting the cliffs
Q7- Explain how beach replenishment and slop stabilisation work.
Beach replinishment is adding sediment to a beach builds up the beach height. Slope stabilisation is vegatation is planted by laying geo-meshes and planting grasses and shrubs- the roots can stabilise soil. Drainage pipes are placed which reduces water pressure and prevents saturation.
Q9- what is the difference between hard and soft engineering
Hard engineering aims to stop natural processes and soft aims to work with natural processes
Real answer Q9
Hard engineering aims to stop natural processes such as LSD in order to stop erosion. However, soft engineering aims to work with natural processes by building bigger beaches and improving cliff drainage
