5.6 And 5.7 Flashcards
What is the difference between regeneration and rebranding
Regeneration is the rebuilding of old areas so that they can provide new jobs, services and housing for the area. Rebranding is just improving an area’s image
When and what was done to regenerate London Docklands?
In 1981 regeneration happened by around 400 docks getting improved because of their age and structure was old and needed replacing
Explain the positives of this regeneration/rebranding,
include: social, environment, economy
The positive of this socially is that more people can live in better housing and can get better jobs. The environmental quality could be bad therefore if it is improved there will be a huge environmental benefit. The economy will benefit because more people will go into jobs which means more goods and services can be created
Explain the negatives of this regeneration/rebranding,
include: social, environment, economy
The negatives are that areas that have gone under these processes is that more migration could start to happen as of the quality of the area. This could be a handful for the economy as more houses will need to be built which will cost the government a lot of money
Who were the winners and losers with this scheme? Did
everyone benefit?
The government could be both winners and losers because of the fact more people are getting jobs but as of the quality of areas getting much better and more people moving in, it might be a bit too much for them. People locally and rurally will benefit a lot because they have a huge opportunity to get a very decent job like programming
Explain what sustainability is
Is too make sure the environment is up to standard and that areas have the resources to sustain themselves of being a developing area
London is linked with rural areas such as
Devon because in that area there is a lot of farming, food is massive in London therefore rural areas like Devon are really important
Interdependence means
the dependence of two or more people or things on each other.
Explain how London and Rural areas are interdependent in
their labour
London and rural areas are very dependent on labour so that a lot of work can be done in order for its economy to grow. If you don’t have the workers the area cannot develop anymore
Explain how London and Rural areas are interdependent in
their goods
They are very interdependent on their goods as it is a product that they really need, a good is something that you could sell or receive that will benefit anyone therefore it is very interdependent
Explain how London and Rural areas are interdependent in
their services
Good service will attract others therefore it is very interdependent
Explain how London benefits from this interdependence
It benefits because more rural areas will be attracted to this therefore London will get more goods which will help them grow even more
Explain how rural areas benefit from this interdependence
As it is usually small area, trading will London will make them bigger therefore you can say interdependence has benefited them
