Questions Revision 4.4 Flashcards
- How does coastal management(building groynes for example) affect coastlines down drift
Coastal management affects down drift as it can stop the process happening in one area but it can spread elswhere
- Real answer
Groynes can be bad as they only protect one area and that it can make erosion even worse down the coast. Another example could be a sea wall and it affects down drift by reflecting its wave energy back into the sea and it provides protection for people from down drift
- How does agriculture affect the coastline
Agriculture affects the coastline because it is eroded more each year and the coastline will always weaken
Real answer for q2
The farm is chosen to not be protected and it is eroding 2m a year as of that decision. The eroded material then is transported along the coast and it adds to the beach
- How does development of towns affect the coastline
It affects the coastline because it affects the cliffs and makes them less stable
Real answer q3
The development of towns affects the coastline because we are building harbours which extracts sediment can affect the stability of the cliffs which have collapsed more
- How has industry affected the coatline
The industry has affected the coastline because of the gas affecting the stability of cliffs
Real answer q4
The industy affects the coastline because it can increase the weight on the cliff as of the carbon emissions. This adds to rotational slumping and mass movement. Sand was drenched from the beach and under the sea to build up the height of gas works. As of this it consequently increased the height of the waves. An example of this is Easington Gas works
How does coastal management affect the coastline
Coastal management is affecting the coastline because of groynes only protecting a bit of the coastline which will certainly affect the rest of the coastline
Real answer q5
An example of coastal management is mapleton. Mapleton is protected by groynes . This has reduced the erosion there but it has sped up erosion down the coastline.
Q6. Explain an indirect impact of human use at the coastline
A indirect impact of human use is the gas works and of it is impacting the cliffs by adding more weight onto it
Real answer Q6
Easington Gas works affect the cliffs as of carbon emissions produced there. This will cause the cliffs to collapse faster. Sand was drenched from the beach and under the sea to build up the height of gas works. As of this human act it has caused waves to be higher and more destructive
