Questions Flashcards
what is an organ
a group of different tissues that work together to perform a certain function
what is a tissue
a group of similar cells that work together to carry out a particular function
describe the differences between arteries and veins
-arteries have thick walls to withstand high pressure but veins have thin walls because the blood pressure is low
-arteries have a narrow lumen to maintain high blood pressure but veins have a wide lumen to reduce resistance between the blood and walls of the vein
-arteries carry blood away from the heart
-veins carry blood towards the heart
smallest to largest for artery capillary and vein in thickness
capillaries only one cell thick- reduce diffusion distance
vein have thin walls- blood pressures low
arteries have thick walls- withstand high pressure
