What is the advantage and disadvantage of qualitative data?
You get detailed answers, but they’re harder to analyse
What is the advantage and disadvantage of quantitative data?
It’s easy to analyse, but your answers aren’t as detailed
What type if questions should you avoid?
Leading questions and questions that ask two things at once
What are standardised instructions and what should they tell participants?
Standardised means that all participants should get the same instructions. It should include ethical issues like confidentiality and say that they can leave blank spaces or stop altogether
Give four advantages of a questionnaire
1 data can be produced relatively quickly and cheaply
2 sensitive information can be gathered, because it’s confidential
3 large quantities of data can be gathered, because once produced can be given to a large sample size
4 useful as follow up research to certain experiments to gain views on feelings and motivation
Give 4 disadvantages to a questionnaire
1 there can be a low response and those who do respond probably won’t be representative to the target population and you get sample bias as they are all the same type of people
2 it’s a lengthy and skilled process as you can have problems with biased questions
3 sociability desirability bias- people answer in a way that casts them in a good light
4 because of the limitations above it’s hard to conclude that something has caused the effect observed
