What is the procedure for carrying out a content analysis?
1 write a consent form
2 get participants to write detailed answers
3 look through the answers to find common themes and patterns (behavioural categories)
4 make a tally each time you see a behaviour (quantitative data)
5 make a narrative of the themes and use the quantitative data to back it up
What type of data does content analysis give?
Qualitative data often in a written format
What are the strengths of content analysis?
High ecological validity, because you can use existing data
In depth and detailed qualitative data
What is the weakness of content analysis?
Can be subjective as the researcher decides what information to include and they could be biased
