Cost of quality
Total cost required to ensure products meet the standards defined by the project.
Prevention costs
Costs to prevent future defects or errors in the product.
Appraisal costs
Costs to find defects or errors in the product.
Internal failure costs
When the product fails internally, often during testing or review.
External failure costs
When the error or non-conformance in the product reaches the end-customer they are external to the project or organization.
Cause and effect diagram
Break down the causes of an identified problem into specific buckets, helping determine the main or root cause of the problem. (Fishbone or Ishikawa diagram)
Histogram
Great way to represent count of something like defects, sales calls, or returns.
Pareto chart
Sort items from most occurring to least occurring and show a cumulative percentage of the items.
Inspection
examines a product - the outcome or results or a project or piece of work, to ensure it meets documented standards.
Audit
Checks that the project processes and activities comply with organizational policies.
Checklist
List of items, actions or points to be considered often used as a process reminder.
Check sheets
Known as tally sheets, they are used to gather data such as the number of times a defect occurs.
Grade
A product with more, better and more desireable features.
Quality
The degree to which the product meets requirements.
