Qualitative movement analysis - Unit 3 AOS 1 Terms Flashcards
What does qualitative movement analysis do?
analyse movement patterns in a range of physical activities and sports
correcting errors and improving performance
What are the 4 main principles of qualitative analysis?
- Preparation (biomechanics)
- Observation (biomechanics)
- Evaluation (biomechanics)
4.Error correction (skill acquisition)
What is the purpose of the qualitative movement analysis?
To improve human movement
Who can undertake a qualitative movement analysis?
Coaches, teachers etc
Preparation - qualitative movement
Coaches must first determine the specific purpose of the analysis
Gather relevant knowledge about:
- Critical features of the skill
- Key skills involved - Information about performance
- Understand psychological and physiological influences on movement e.g gender, age - Details about the observation stage
- Recorded/measured - What constitutes effective instruction
- Determine best way to communicate feedback
Observation - qualitative movement
Observations can be performed live and/or recorded digitally.
A range of variables can be observed before and during the game:
- Global dynamics of the game
- Whether the team is completing set plays according to the plan
- Opponents patterns of play
- Behaviour of the opposing coach
- Situational variables
Evaluation (dagnosis) - qualitative movement
Refers to the judgement of quality of the performance. - identily mistakes
Performance can be assessed objectively (eg- score and time)
or subjectively (qualitative analysis, interpretation of observation).
Criteria or rubrics may be used to make judging and scoring of sports more objective.
validity and reliablility
Evaluation (dagnosis) - qualitative movement
???????? is val and rel a part of
tests need to be valid and reliable
Validity:
- test’s capacity to measure what it intends to.
- does the test measure what it is suppose to
eg: VO2 max test measures VO2 max
Reliability:
test’s ability to produce similar results if the test was repeated.
To ensure the test is reliable you must take into account:
- Procedures
- Conditions
- Equipment
- Environment
- Tester
Error correction - qualitative analysis
- based on teacher or coach observation
Weaknesses are identified
strategies to address these are developed using either direct or constraints based coaching
or instructional approaches.
Intervention ????
Error correction - qualitative analysis
Intervention is then undertaken by one or both of the following: (what is this)
- Intervention during a microcycle of training
- Intervention during the game
correction:
- feedback
- Modify practice
- Exaggeration
- Visual model
- Manual guidance
- Mechanical guidance
