Practise and Feedback - Unit 3 AOS 1 Terms Flashcards
Practise methods
Blocked or random practice
Massed or distributed practice
Massed
Practice Distribution (Massed or Distributed)
scheduling of less frequent training sessions that last for a longer period of time.
Rest intervals between tasks are also reduced compared to distributed practice.
Distributed
Involves shorter but more frequent training sessions
More time is given for rest between tasks within the training session.
This model is adopted by professional teams and creates a better learning environment. (across the week)
Distinquishing between massed or dristributed
- Look for rest periods
distributed = more time given for rest between tasks in the session
Massed = rest intervals between tasks are reduced compared to distributed practise
Practice variability
blocked practice
random practice
blocked practice
- practising the same skill continually without changing to a different task
- usually used with beginners (cognitive) who are trying to understand and reproduce the movement.
- A closed environment should enable the beginner to quickly replicate the movement pattern.
random practice
- Is the varied sequencing of different motor skills in the same training session.
- It is appropriate for performers in the associative and autonomous stages.
Leads to greater learning when compared to blocked practice on a retention test.
examples of both on slideshow ‘practice and feedback’
Feedback
- Instrinsic (internal)
- augmented (external)
Feedback and feedback frequency should decrease as performer progresses through stages to allow the performer to identify and correct their own errors.
Instrinsic (internal) Feedback
information the performer receives directly from their sensory systems being:
1. visual
2. auditory (hear)
3. Proprioception (perceive the position and movement of your body eg. being able to kick without looking at your foot)
4.Touch
eg: leaning down to toes and hamstring pulls
eg: hen batting hear sound ball to determine if hit well or fielders knows where it is going
Knowledge of results (KR)
Augmented Feedback (external)
Refers to specific feedback about the outcome of the task.
Beneficial for beginners (cognitive).
Knowledge of performance: (KP)
Augmented Feedback (external)
characteristics of performing a task
Good for beginners (cognitive) who has no skill who is unable to identify errors.
Descriptive feedback for an experienced player.
Timing of Feedback
- Terminal
- Concurrent
Terminal
Timing of Feedback
Information given at the conclusion of performance
Concurrent
Timing of Feedback
Information given during the performance
