Describe Qi Deficiency (Def)
Etiology:
Old age, weak body, malnutrition, chronic illness
Symptoms:
SOB, fatigue, weak voice, worse after physical activity, spontaneous sweat
Describe Qi Sinking (Def)
Etiology:
Old age, weak body, chronic illness
Symptoms:
Qi Def symptoms & organ prolapse (ST, BL, anus, uterus), vaginal discharge, chronic diarrhea
Describe Qi Stagnation (Excess)
Etiology:
Bad diet, emotional disharmony, extreme cold/heat
Symptoms:
Feeling of distention and oppression moving pain in chest and hypochondriac region. Pain and distention relieved by belching, passing wind, sighing. Sx worse after stress, worry, anger.
T: normal / P: wiry
Describe Qi Reversion/Rebellious (Excess)
Etiology: Emotional disharmony, phlegm, cold, fluid/food retention
Symptoms:
LU: cough, wheezing, asthma
ST: belching, nausea, vomit
LV: chest and hypochondriac distention moving pain, anger, irritability
Describe Blood Deficiency (Def)
Etiology:
Heavy blood loss, ST & SP def, chronic illness
Symptoms:
Pale dull complexion, pale: lips, eyelids, nails, blurry vision, dizziness, insomnia, palpitation
Describe Blood Stasis (Excess)
Etiology:
Injury, Qi Def & Stag, Cold coagulate in BV
Symptoms:
Fixed stabbing pain worse at night, may have lump on body that appear cyanotic, purpleish: nails, lips, tongue with bleeding
T: purple / P: thready, choppy
Describe Blood Heat (Excess)
Etiology:
Ext heat pathogen attack, Internal heat from overeating spicy food and yin def, emotions stagnate internally turning into heat
Symptoms:
Red face, irritable, thirsty, fever, all bleeding sx, advanced mens, heavy bleeding
T: dark red/crimson / P: rapid
Describe Blood Cold (Excess)
Etiology:
Ext cold attack body, yang def
Symptoms:
Whole body pain, pain in hands and feet alleviated by warmth, body is dull blueish purpleish complexion. delayed mens with dark purple blood and blood clots
T: light/dull purple with white coat / P: deep, slow, choppy

Moisten, cooling, distribute
Describe Fluid Deficiency (Def)
Etiology:
Loss of BF, insufficient fluid regeneration
Symptoms:
Dry mouth, throat, dry & cracked lips, hollow/sunken eyes, dry skin without luster, thirst with desire to drink , dry stool, scanty urine
T: dry with no/scanty coat / P: thready, rapid
LU dryness: dry cough with sticky scanty sputum, hard to expectorate
ST dryness: ST dull pain, hungry but no desire to eat
LI dryness: constipation, foul mouth smell
Describe Fluid Retention (Excess) and Water Retention (Excess)
Pathogenesis for Fluid
Thin and clear fluid accumulate in tissue, meridians, organs
Pathogenesis for Water
Internal retained water which flows to the muscles and stays in the abdominal cavity leading to edema
Etiology:
Declined fx of the zangfu organs
Describe Yang Edema (Excess)
Pathogenesis:
Ext pathogenic wind attack disrupting LU fx to D&D = wind & water combating
Symptoms:
Bright white skin , starts at the head and face, acute onset
Describe Yin Edema (Excess)
Pathogenesis:
Chronic SP & KD deficiency resulting in dysfx of fluid circulation
Symptoms:
Edema starts on the feet and ankles, dull sallow complexion without luster, slow onset
