Attention?
Selective focus (spot light) on a particular stimuli in your external environment or in your internal thoughts or sensations. ( as big as your tone nail)
Inattentional blindness-
Inability to notice something in our clear field of vision due to our limited capacity for attention (monkey business illusion)
Change blindness
Failing to notice when something changes.
Wife’s haircut or failing to notice u are talking to a different person when asking for directions.
Consciousness?
Personal awareness of mental activities, internal sensations= I’m hungry, cold, nervous.

Circadian rhythm
Biological or psychological process that systematically varies over the coarse of each day.

Hormone made by the pineal gland that produces sleepiness
REM sleep
Sleep which rapid eye movements (rem) and dreaming occur and voluntary muscle activity is suppressed, also called active sleep or paradoxical sleep
Hynagogic hallucinations
Vivid sensory phenomena that occur during the onset of sleep (falling or floating)
What are the four stages of non REM
1) short, sounds of environment, hypnagogic hallucinations
2) breathing rhythmically, first real stage, sleep walk
3) slow wave sleep, deep sleep.
4) full minute to gain consciousness, sleep walk. Answer phone and not know it.
5) REM, lasts shorter the first time and longer the last. Longest is 45-2 hours. Shortest is 5 min
Causes of sleep deprivation?
Short term- obesity, affect of cognitive thinking
Long term- heart problems
Accumulates over time
