Q2 Flashcards

1
Q

What are the 3 types of neurons?

Q

What are the three basic components of a neuron?

A
  1. Cell body- “soma” manufactures proteins, process nutrients, provides energy.
  2. Dendrites- receives information.
  3. Axon- the stem of the neuron that carries messages to other cells.

Q

What happenes at the synapse of a neuron?

A

The postsynaptic neuron receives the message from the presynaptic neuron, chemically or electrical and don’t touch. They are separated by a fluid space called the synaptic gap.

17
Q

What is the process reuptake?

A

The reabsorption of neurotransmitters in the synaptic gap by the sending neuron

18
Q

What is the difference between agonist and antagonist?

A

Agonist-drug that binds to a receptor site and triggers a response in the cell.
Antagonist- drug that blocks the receptor site and prevents a response in the cell.

19
Q

How many pounds is the brain and how many neurons does it contain?

A

3 pounds

100 billion neurons
